Spider-Man the Musical Tickets – Prepares For Official Premiere in December

After months of turmoil, “Spider-Man the Musical” has finally received an opening date for Broadway. The new musical, which will bring the Marvel Comic to life, has been a topic of conversation since it was announced that Bono and the Edge would write the soundtrack. More than a year later, the show – and its $50 million-plus budget – has announced rehearsal dates and an opening day.

According to a New York Times blog, a show spokesperson said that Julie Taymor, who co-wrote the book with Glen Berger and gained fame with her work on “The Lion King,” began rehearsals on Aug. 16 with expectations to begin previews in November. Fans are guaranteed to enjoy this show that not only includes U2 but the famous story of Peter Parker and gang. Pick up Spider-Man the Musical tickets from StubHub.

The new musical, “Spider-Man, Turn off the Dark,” will begin previews at the Foxwoods Theater (formerly the Hilton Theatre) on Nov. 14, with the official opening scheduled for Dec. 21. The announcement comes with a grain of salt for critics, who had expected to see the show in February 2010 after similar news. At that time, Evan Rachel Wood was still on board to play Mary Jane, though the actress has since dropped out and has been replaced by Jennifer Darmiano. New York Times reports that Reever Carney, who will play Peter Parker, has already begun acrobatic training for the unique moves he’s expected to perform at the Foxwoods.

Earlier this month the entire creative cast was announced, and includes choreography by Daniel Ezralow, scenic design by George Tsypin and costume design by Academy Award winner Eiko Ishioka. “Drawing from over 40 years of Marvel comic books for inspiration, ‘Spider-Man Turns Off the Dark’ presents a new take on the mythic tale of a young man propelled from a modest row-house in Queens to the sky-scraping spire of the Chrysler Building, the bustling offices of the Daily Bugle, through the dizzying canyons of Manhattan, to new vistas never before seen,” according to the production notes. The story will follow a teenage Parker who turns around from a geek to a powerful, villain-fighting hero overnight.

The Marvel Comic musical is produced by Michael Cohl, Jeremiah J. Harris, Hello Entertainment/David Garfinkle, Marvel Entertainment and Sony Pictures Entertainment. Currently only three cast members have been announced, which include Damiano, Carney and Patrick Page, who will portray Norman Osborn, or the Green Goblin.

Damiano is a Broadway veteran, earning a Tony Award nomination for her role in “Next to Normal” after making her stage debut in “Spring Awakening.” She recently transitioned from the stage, where she has been working professionally since the age of 12, to the small screen with a small role in the CW series “Gossip Girl.” Page earned critical acclaim for his role as Mr. Grinch in Broadway’s Dr. Suess’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, as well as roles in Broadway’s “Julius Caesar” opposite Denzel Washington, “Beauty and the Beast,” “The Lion King,” “The Kentucky Cycle” and “A Man for All Seasons.”
