Taking the Best Possible Prom Pictures

Prom night is one aspect of your high school career that you will want to remember forever. In order to do so, you should try to take as many pictures of possible.

Years from now, down the road, you will look back on your photo albums and remember the fun times that you and your friends had together, especially at monumental events.

Preserving these memories is done best through film and through saving images for a later date.

Though you may not have the funds or time to hire a professional photographer, you can still do your own amateur and informal versions and make them look great!

There are things, however, that one must remember when they are having a photo session or taking pictures.

One aspect that is sometimes hard to remember is the backdrop; after all, it is behind you and you do not even see it! Why is it that important?

It can definitely change the whole feel and look of your photographs. If you have clutter or other items present in the background, your pictures may not turn out as classy or interesting as you would like.

Get together with a group of your friends before the dance and make use of the foliage or scenery in someone’s backyard. These will provide a beautiful look and really make your memories extra special.

Try to choose spots that are free of runaway foliage so that you avoid having plants and branches seemingly sticking out from the back of your group.

When you do this, you should really notice that the backdrop looks great and you all stand out against the background that you have chosen.

Another very important aspect to shooting an impressive photograph is the use of light; if at all possible, you should try to include natural light when you are photographing. It gives softer edges and makes you look more natural.

Flashes tend to brighten the face drastically and can morph the background and rest of the photo. It may also have a negative effect on the color and exposure.

If you do choose to utilize natural light, say in the afternoon before your dinner and before you jet off to the dance, make sure that the sun is in a beneficial place where it will not be in anyone’s eyes.

You may find it best to take these pictures in a semi-shady area of the yard or in front of your home.

Generally, the photographer should have their back to the sun and the light coming over their shoulder for a nice effect. Watch for shadows or coverings in the light that may present a problem when the pictures are developed.

Posing can also be extremely vital when it comes to creating a beautiful photograph. Make sure that couples are lined up together, especially if they are wearing coordinating clothing.

Have them get as close as they can; they may even want to hug or touch cheeks so that their faces are close together and you can really get a close-up.

This is not only a cute and romantic image, but it will give the female an opportunity to photograph her lovely makeup and hairstyle.

If you are shooting in a group, have everyone let their true personality shine through.

Make sure that they are situated close enough together that you can get them into the frame; that way, no one will be cut off when the image is placed on the computer screen or when it is developed.

Feel free to take all different types of images, including serious, smiley, and goofy. These are things that you will want to remember!

Those that choose to have a get-together or dinner beforehand may even want to have someone take candid shots of the prom goers in their outfits. That way, they will be captured in their natural state and conversations.

Once the prom goer has made it to the dance, they will most likely want to also take professional photo. These are usually available at most proms, and can be purchased in packages.

There may be a special backdrop or theme to the area in which you pose for images; try to utilize that theme in your posing. Make sure that you do so with class and that you really create something you will want to remember forever!
