Seafood The Last Word On Dining Out

Heard across the country on Friday and Saturday night “where do you want to go for dinner”? This is followed by a debate as to what sounds good. One person may be craving a hamburger, another Mexican, Italian or Indian, another has been dreaming all day of a good barbeque rib plate complete with baked beans and cold slaw. Usually the discussion goes round in a circle until someone mentions seafood. Seafood is the common ground in dining out. Discussion over, time to eat.

Of course, not all people are seafood enthusiast, but the majority seems to be. Where to start with all the seafood options? There are several great restaurants here in Monterey that specializes in seafood, bringing mouthwatering choices directly from ocean to plate.
For appetizers, try sesame-crusted seared ahi tuna and avocado, baked brie and roasted garlic service with crisp ciabatta, or always a favorite oysters on the half shell, fried oyster or mussels. Dungeness crab and fire-roasted artichoke quesadilla will fill the cravings of your entire party especially served along side a serving of crab cakes or s jumbo prawns cocktail served with a spicy cocktail sauce.

Time for the entree. You can start with a salad, the choices are many, a classic wedge salad served with bay shrimp, a mixed green salad with blue cheese and ranch, or a seafood medley salad with feta cheese, olives, cucumbers, tomatoes, roasted peppers, red onions, calamari, bay shrimp and a perfectly seasoned balsamic vinaigrette.

For entree choices, the decision becomes increasing hard to make. What are you in the mood for, shellfish and pasta or grilled seafood steaks? Homemade crab ravioli with grilled scallops and caviar in a lobster sherry cream will make anyone smile. Prawns Italiano stuffed with jumbo prawns sauteed with fresh garlic shallots, capers, tomatoes, white wine, mushrooms, artichoke hearts, black olives in a marinara sauce served over imported pasta. Dungeness crab with baby spinach, mushrooms served in a light lemon cream sauce. Just the word “sauce” makes you hungry.

For a little lighter fare, try marinated and charbroiled abalone, a calamari steak, a European scampi plate, lobster, or king crabs served in a variety of ways. They might not actually be lighter but they taste like it. Restaurants in Monterey serve seafood in many shapes and sizes, but one thing is for sure; it fills every bill, satisfies every craving and ends any discussion about “where should we go for dinner”.
