Using the Sand Bags
There are many people who use sand bags for a variety of purposes. These range from using them to help with flooding problems to strengthen defensive positions to play games.
They were used pretty heavily in World War I as barriers to help set up defensive positions for the armies. They not only help to strengthen positions for the soldiers hunkered down on the ground, but also to help cushion the blow of any thrown weapons.
The soldiers would dig up trenches in the ground so they could hide out from their enemies and stack the bags up on top of one another to allow them to rest their weapons against them and make windows to see what was going on. Obviously this took a lot of physical manual labor and took quite a long time to set up.
The process was sped up when you formed a line of several people helping to stack them. They served a great purpose for military fortification.
They help to shield glass windows in the war zones. But they are not permanent solutions for the problem when they are used in war.
They are just a temporary measure to help protect the structures surrounding the war zone. They can be laid out and structured just like bricks that are used to build buildings.
This is because they can be interlocked and tightly sealed together just by moving the soil and grains around a little inside of the bag. They are not very heavy to move around.
They can be laid in excavated defenses or be built up together to make a free standing wall around a structure. How are these bags made and what do you fill them with?
They are usually made using either a hessian or a burlap polypropylene material. This is because these materials are strong and sturdy, yet very flexible at the same time.
You then fill it with some kind of sand, soil, or even grains if you want. They usually use sand to fill them because it can be found anywhere and is a lot cheaper to use than any other material.
Hence the name sand bags was given to these tools. Burlap is also very inexpensive compared to other types of materials that could hold the sand, so it is used more often than not.
When everything is finished, you are left with a product that is durable (for a temporary amount of time) and flexible. It is a tool that has several uses and is able to build up walls of support and protection.
Not only are these used for military purposes, but also for floods. People all over the country, especially those who live in areas where hurricanes and floods are more prevalent, will use these sand bags to build up walls of protection around their homes to try and save their houses from becoming flooded.
They help control the flow of water and are able to redirect the water around their structures. They work fairly well if the flood does not last for very long and could help save your home.
But if the water stays flooded for an extended amount of time, the water will eventually seep through the bags and cause water damage to whatever building you were trying to protect in the first place. They are easy to move around and can be built into a support wall really fast if you have a few other people helping you.
One of the best things about them is that they are reusable. Once you make them, you can keep them for a long time and reuse them several times over as long as you make sure to put them out to dry for a while so that they do not grow mold and deteriorate.
These sand bags have been used since the late 1700′s in several different situations and have been a very helpful tool for many people. Because they are cheap, easily moved, and are so versatile, many people all over the world use them when the situation calls for it.
