Friendship Flowers
With all the types, styles, colors, shapes, sizes and textures of flowers, it’s easy to get lost in all the different meanings flowers can convey. There are flowers meant for romantic love, flowers to say our condolences, flowers to say we are sorry, flowers fit to be given to mothers, flowers meant to be given for those who are sick, flowers to say I love you.
Then there are flowers meant to symbolize friendship. While red is the traditional color that stands for romance and passion, the colors yellow, white and pink usually connote friendship. There are many different flowers you can send to your friend, and each color, cut and style means something different.
Here are some flowers associated with friendship:
Chrysanthemums are friendship flowers because they stand for innocence, loyalty and cheerfulness. Dahlias are another good example of flowers that stand for friendship. The Dahlia was once the emblem of France and today, it is considered the state flower of Tennessee. Dahlias stand for faith, hope and wisdom, things you would wish for a dear friend of yours.
Your friend might also want to receive lilies. Lilies are traditionally associated with legends and they are even mentioned in the Bible to symbolize the virtue of chastity. Today, lilies connote faith and purity. Peruvian lilies, especially, symbolize friendship and devotion while calla lilies bring to mind that touch of class, sophistication and radiant beauty, perfect for a cherished girl friend.
Some of the most beautiful flowers in all of nature are the Orchids. Orchids have nearly 25,000 varieties, all of them equally exquisite and beautiful. In the olden days, orchids were associated with love and fertility and they were thought to protect against diseases. Today, orchids make the perfect gift for a female or male friend as they are not only beautiful, they also stand for preciousness. To bring a smile to your friend’s face, try giving her sunflowers. Sunflowers are so named because they turn their heads towards the sun and so they symbolize adoration, cheerfulness and playfulness. Originating in South and Central America, sunflowers are not only very pretty, they are also relatively easy to take care of.
Don’t be afraid to give roses to your friend. Roses are arguably the queen of flowers and just next to the buttercup, these flowers are the second oldest variety of flowers on Earth. There are so many meanings associated with roses, the most common of which is love of course, which originates way back in Greek Mythology. When Adonis, lover of Aphrodite, died, Aphrodite had red Adonis roses grown along with his blood. This was how roses came to symbolize undying love.
Still, roses can be given to friends, although be careful to send white, yellow, orange and pink roses instead, as these stand for purity, friendship, grace, gentility and gladness. Yellow roses are considered THE friendship rose. White roses stand for loyalty and innocence, yellow for friendships and new beginnings, pinks for sweetness, orange roses for enthusiasm and purple for faithfulness and grace.
Whatever flowers you choose for your friends, they are thoughtful reminders to those cherished people in your life that you care for them and appreciate their presence in your life.
