Using Social Networking for Play and Pay
Whether you’re on Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace or other Social Networking sites you’ve probably noticed more and more people are not only using the sites for building their lists of friends just to be social, but more often than not as a tool for building their businesses.
The challenge most of those attempting to use Social Networking for finding prospects run into is how they approach others online. I don’t know how you feel, but I’m getting really tired and somewhat irritated when I get lots of messages from people about their business or if they post it on my wall. “Intrusion marketing” is NOT the way to get business or find good prospects. Irritating your potential business partners is a bad idea.
Learning the proper way to approach people using Social Networking sites is extremely important. Less is definitely more. Starting off messaging someone with; “Hi, I’m on your friends list, are you looking for a way to make money” is definitely NOT going to get them to join your business. More likely than not they will click the “remove friend” button and they are lost to you forever.
The brilliance in just saying “Hi, how are you?” will begin your dialog and little by little you can get to know them and start a friendship without ever mentioning what you do.
You may be so excited about your business you want to shout it from the mountain tops but whatever you do, don’t do that.
Keep your conversations brief and light. Asking them what they do is fine. Let them talk about themselves. Most people love to do that. Find out all you can about their likes and dislikes, their families, yet try not to sound like you’re interrogating them. They might think you’re a stalker or something worse and run the other way.
There are very good Social Networking Systems available that train you from A to Z how to make the initial contact, what to say and when and how to say it. When the person is almost begging you to reveal what you actually do that allows you to sit at home and work from your beach chair or sitting in front of your fireplace sipping wine and chatting with them from your laptop, THEN you reveal your secret to making money from anywhere in the world.
When looking for a Social Networking System it’s important to find one that includes “live” training with a real, live Coach. Watching an online webinar several times per week along with listening to them engage real people in conversation is an important part of the process.
As you listen to and observe how they take someone from casual friend to a real and excited business prospect will serve you well. You won’t be guessing what to say or fumbling around burning your way through dozens if not hundreds of people online and wasting your time and theirs at the same time coming across as a “used car salesperson.” No offense to used car salespeople but you get my meaning.
A good Social Networking Course will take away all the guesswork and amateur mistakes. You can be up and running in days instead of months and your list of prospects and your business will begin to thrive.
Don’t get me wrong, Wordscraper and all the fun “apps” are great but in this economy it’s important to turn “play day” into “Pay Day!” Naturally you can still have fun and keep your game buddies happy while at the same time set aside certain hours during each day to throw your net out into the Social Networking waters and pull in as many new business prospects as you can.
