Summer Evenings Are My Favorite Time Of Year

Art festivals are my very favorite. It is hard to beat a warm summer night, endless booths of artistic creations, good food, live music and plenty of people to talk with and mingle with. I love the pottery creations, being somewhat of a novelist pottery, I have a new appreciation for the work, toil and risks involved in pottery. The money I used to somewhat grudgingly pay, I now pay happily and with appreciation. Pottery is not an easy art. Things can go wrong at many different stages; the wheel, trimming, and surely if something decides to go wrong it will with the glazing and final firing.

I love to look at 3-D art best, sculptures of a myriad of styles and mediums, wind chimes blown with glass, buckets of bolts welded to form animals and garden art, wood, metal, glass, the endless art of combining elements to make something new and beautiful. I do love the 2-d art also, big colorful canvases, small pencil drawings, photographs, digitally enhanced and fascinating scenes of the wonders of the world and scenes from right here in our own back yard.

Jewelry has been taken to new heights with a plethora of artist stringing glass, metal, beads, clay together to form bracelets, necklaces and earrings. I have enjoyed looking at leather cuff bracelets customized with a stones, metal fixtures, beads all attached to the leather to create a custom cuff bracelet reminiscing of warrior days gone by.

I love Jazz festivals with dancing children who sit on the front row and just can’t keep their bodies from moving when the music begins. A Farmers market is the best way to start a Saturday morning. Fresh produce grown in someone orchard or farm, fresh eggs, fresh salsa, fresh herbs and cut flowers, samples and dogs and people galore. A menagerie of smells, tastes and sights.

I know of no better way to spend a summer evening than at a park where a free concert is going on. A Saturday farmers market, a Jazz festival or just a night at the park watching the children and dogs play. Summer evenings are the best.
