Considerations For International Removals
Moving house is apparently up there with divorce in terms of stress. I’m not married, but this is something I can well believe. What with contracts, estate agents, fees, packing and cleaning all within a typically strict deadline of sometimes just a day or two it is not an experience anyone wants to do regularly.
However, moving house is something most of us will have to do at least once in our lives and for most people several times. This is usually due to a new job, a partner, an investment, or maybe we just feel like a change. But what happens if you decide to move abroad? Cue International Removals Company and a great deal of organizing!
When making an international move, there are a lot more logistical arrangements to be made and timings are imperative! Also, you need to make sure that your stuff makes it to your new home without you as typically you will be flying if you are moving abroad.
So how do you get your possessions there safely?
There are three main ways to move your household goods: by air, by sea or by lorry if you are moving somewhere accessible by road ie within mainland Europe. Obviously, it will take longer for your items to arrive if you’re moving them by boat. However, this option usually saves you money, and sometimes provides the best means of transport. When trying to decide, look at all options in terms of cost, factoring in any furnished rentals you may need to pay for in the interim. Make sure you get quotes from a number of International removals companies to ensure you get the best price.
If moving by sea, your household goods will be packed into containers that are usually loaded at your home. These containers are seaworthy and usually made of metal. Once your home is packed into the containers, they are then shipped by rail or transport to the port where they are then loaded on to a steamship container. The container is then loaded on the boat as cargo.
Once your goods have arrived in the new country either by air or sea, the storage container will be unloaded and must pass through customs. International Removal companies will be able to help you with the custom forms and are responsible for clearing your goods. This is an important factor to consider as if you don’t find out all the legal requirements of an international move then you could be left frustrated at customs due to a technicality such as an unsigned form. As I mentioned, a reputable International removals company should have this information and be able to offer advice.
As with all moves, make sure you investigate the international removals company before you hire to make sure your things are in good hands.
